Welcome to the first post on Recovering Commuter. I’m going to use this post as an introduction to my story and also set out my goals going forward.

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Pete McAllister. I’m a digital marketer and 1st year entrepreneur from Scotland in the UK.

Quitting Corporate Life

In August 2018 I took a deep breath and quit my job of 5 years as the Digital Manager of a nationwide finance broker.

My job was great, but after years of a long and draining commute I was exhausted and run down. I had achieved everything I wanted to within the company and hit a ceiling. There were no longer any new challenges for me and it was time to do something about it.

Here’s what I gave up:

A £40,000 annual salary
A generous company pension
A huge number of additional health and lifestyle benefits

BUT, here’s what I also gave up:

A daily 3 hour commute
Regular sleep deprivation
Frustration and stress over uncontrollable factors

Rolling the Dice

I made the choice to put stability and comfort on the line to try and achieve greater well-being and financial independence..

It was a huge leap of faith which allowed me to set up my own company and try and build a more fulfilling life for myself.

Follow me here as I blog about the trials and tribulations of growing a new business as well as personal development and life goals.

Key Aims:

– Financial Independence by the age of 40.
– Better physical health and appearance.
– Decreased stress levels and improved mental health.

Wish me luck!
